EUROPE/ITALY - The world and the challenge to humanise healthcare. St John of God Hospitaller Brothers: ““not only curing but most of all caring””

Saturday, 14 May 2005

Rome (Fides Service) - Medical doctors, university professors and men and women religious from all over the world will meet in Palermo, Sicily, to discuss the humanisation of healthcare with input from the United States, Brazil, Congo, Iran, Spain, France, Switzerland and Portugal. The meeting will be held 20 and 21 May 2005 at Buccheri La Ferla Fatebenefratelli Hospital.
“The world and the challenge to humanise healthcare” is the theme of the meeting. Speakers from various different countries will talk on medical staff/patient relations and the importance of “caring” as well as curing.
Today with medical treatment every more efficient but also ever more detached from the person, healthcare must consider new types of users, patients and social-health interventions. Not only offering a cure but above all offering ‘care’. (AP) (14/5/2005 Agenzia Fides; Righe:16; Parole:162)
