Rome (Fides Service) -The new 100 bed Naggalama Hospital in central Uganda which serves a community of about 250,000 people will be inaugurated on Monday 16 May there.
Started in June 2002 the intervention to rehabilitate the Naggalama Hospital restores to the people of the diocese of Lugazi (circa 1.2 million) a hospital structure now fully recovered in its functionality and efficiency with a new delivery room , operating theatre, laboratory and 10 staff homes, renovated maternity and children’s wards, prenatal clinic, women and men’s wards and a central medicine pharmacy and these are only some of the results obtained. But most important undoubtedly the results: in 2003 alone 6.900 patients admitted, 27.000 out-patients treatment, 1.100 babies delivered.
On 18 and 19 May two physiotherapy centres will be opened as part of CUAMM’s physiotherapy programme in the north of the West Nile region. The inauguration ceremonies will close with a visit on 20 May to the Uganda Martyrs University at Nkozi, one of the most important colleges in Africa with a Health Science Department supported by CUAMM teaching staff and technical assistance.
