EUROPE/GERMANY - “BETWEEN WAR AND PEACE: RELIGIONS AND CULTURES MEET” IN THE HEART OF EUROPE INTERNATIONAL DIALOGUE MEETING PROMOTED BY S. EGIDIO COMMUNITY

Rome (Fides Service) – The 17th International Meeting of Peoples and Religions sponsored by the Rome based S. Egidio Community will be held in the heart of Europe and it will focus on the new Europe. The Meeting which will in take place in Aachen, Germany from 7-9 September and reflect on the theme Between war and peace: religions and cultures meet” is organised in collaboration with the diocese Aachen.
Special guests will include the Secretary General of the International Organisation of French speaking countries Abdou Diouf; the President of the European Commission Romano Prodi, Ahmad At-Tayyib Gran Mufti of Egypt; Israel Meir Lau former chief Rabbi of Israel. The meeting will also be attended by 15 Catholic Cardinals Patriarchs, representatives of all the Orthodox Churches (including a delegation from the Patriarchate of Moscow led by Metropolitan Kirill), Konrad Raiser Secretary General of the World Council of Churches, the Secretary General of the World Arab League, representatives and leading members of Judaism, Buddhism, Zoroastrians, Scintoism, state ministers, intellectuals and writers from many different countries.
More than five hundred people from fifty different countries representing the world’s great religions, in the wake of the historic World Day of prayer for Peace in Assisi in 1986, will come to this appointment to find answers to the major challenges facing the world at the beginning of the century.
