Rome (Fides Service) – Representing their Brothers all over the world, 37 young Benedictine monks from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America have come to Rome to take part in a Congress from 16 to 26 July organised by the College of S. Anselmo in Rome, the centre of the Benedictine Confederation www.osb-international.info and see of the Abbot primate. The congress will start every day with Morning Prayer and the celebration of Mass at different Churches in Rome, one of the main Basilicas, the Catacombs, the Three Fountains shrine of the martyrdom of St Paul and Benedictine towns, Norcia, Subiaco, Montecassino.
The artistic, spiritual and cultural aspect is an integral part of the Congress which intends to allow the young participants to share their experience as Benedictine monks in various parts of the world: community life, prayer, welcoming strangers and works of charity. The participants will also have time for in depth reflection in language groups on certain points to then share with the whole assembly. The young men taking part have made their temporary vows and in this period they will decide whether they are ready to make their perpetual profession as a Benedictine monk.
