Wednesday, 27 April 2005

Bangalore (Fides Service) -Bangalore in Karnataka is famous as a centre of IT. Not wanting to be left behind, local Catholic Church in Bangalore has decided to join the Internet with its own official web site www.bangalorearchdiocese.com. The site was opened by Archbishop Bernard Moras who said the initiative would help the Church keep up with the changing times. Referring to recent Church statements on social communications the Archbishop said: “Internet is a space in which we must proclaim the Gospel and witness the Lord’s concern for the poor and the needy”. The organiser of the web programme Fr. S. Jayanathan said the aim is to be a point of reference and a point of connection for every parish in the diocese and also for the Catholic Bishops’ Conference and to be a bridge for the Church at the national level. He also said that in view of the next plenary meeting of the Bishops’ Conference, planned for February 2006 and to be held in Bangalore, the web site would be an interactive portal of news and information for researching and exchanging all kinds of information.
