Madrid (Fides Service) - “Since it came to power the present Spanish government has failed to keep its promises, such as supporting the family and appointing an observer for the family. What is more it is sustaining regressive measures which denote a phobia of the family” Eduardo Hertfelder, President of the Spanish Institute for Family Policy told Fides. Recently Spain’s lower house of parliament approved changes in the civil code to facilitate the process of separation and divorce and allow marriage between homosexuals. “This bill proposes to eliminate the period of reflection and allow instant divorce - D. Eduardo said -. In the present situation 20% of the couples come together again but the new law would prevent this and break up families. It also encourages the right of repudiation against which the other spouse can do nothing”.
With regard to the Bill to equal homosexual union to marriage D. Hertfelder said: “This is a tremendous aberration against marriage and a grave injustice and deception against society. This is an act of discrimination against the family. The concept of family is being prostituted. To allow homosexual couples to adopt children it a violation of the child’s rights to have his or her figure of mother and father”. It is important to remember that “one of the ends of marriage is to hand on life and this guarantees the future of society and future means progress. Instead homosexual unions cannot hand on life and this will lead to the fall and end of society”.
D. Eduardo said “the government does not believe in the family and is doing everything possible to eliminate it. It is emptying the concept of family giving it another different concept. This is a double attack and will lead to terrible consequences. First of all psychological instability among adopted children. Break down in marriages. Less families, and less guarantee for the person. The family is not longer the nucleus of union and this will lead to a society of people without bonds”. This calls for mobilisation of the laity and families. “Up to now we have been passive leaving others to shape society and now we must realise that they are eliminating our rights and we must prevent them from doing so”.
