EUROPE/SPAIN - “A homosexual union cannot be called marriage : this is a lie, a contradiction, a falsification, and moral perversion”: Archbishop Francisco Pérez González tells Fides

Saturday, 23 April 2005

Madrid (Fides Service) - “The term ‘homosexual marriage’ is a contradiction, a perversion" Archbishop Francisco Pérez González military ordinary and national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Spain told Fides. “With regard to the fact that the Spanish parliament has approved the evil called ‘homosexual ‘marriage’ I can only say what we have said so many times according to the teaching of the Church: this is a lie, a contradiction, a falsification and moral perversion, because it is against natural law and against God’s law. It is a horrible aberration contrary to reason and common sense. A homosexual union cannot be called marriage this is a lie. Marriage is a relationship between a man and a woman. The result of this decision is a falsification”.
“I feel deeply offended by this proposal and this law - Archbishop Pérez said -. As Christians we must protest, we must be ‘objectors of conscience’ , we must respond in the light of the faith, in the light of our dignity as human persons and believers. We just be guided by reason and the dignity of the human race. Time will give its verdict but it will come too late for those who now gleefully approve this aberration. In the end lies are always found out, the truth always triumphs. This has happened in history and will always happen. We cannot argue with God. We obey him, we adore him, we love him and as believers, Christians and Catholics we cannot approve this perversion”. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 23/4/2005; righe 18, parole 269)
