AFRICA/BENIN - Catholics in Benin rejoice for the election of Benedict XVI

Cotonou (Fides Service)- “The election of Benedict XVI was welcomed with great joy here in Benin” a journalist working for “Radio Immaculate Conception” in Cotonou, capital of Benin told Fides.
“As soon as the news was announced Archbishop Marcel Honorat Léon Agboton of Cotonou called the people to take part in a mass of thanksgiving. Our radio contacted the papal nuncio and in a live telephone call he explained the significance of the name taken by Pope Benedict XVI.
