Rome (Fides Service) - On Saturday 23 April in St Paul’s Basilica some 4.000 members of the Cursillos of Christianity Movement in Italy will hold an all day prayer event, 9am to 5pm, for the repose of the soul of John Paul II and the mission of the new Pope Benedict XVI called to guide the universal Church. In a message, National co-ordinator, Ferdinando Rosato and national spiritual director Mgr. Ubaldo Speranza state: “The Cursillos of Christianity Movement in Italy and the rest of the world welcome with joy and enthusiasm the new Vicar of Christ as a gift of the Father’s providence. We confirm our loyalty and obedience to him and to the Church assuring him of our prayers. The Holy Spirit works well and always fills the heart of the Pope with his grace and power to enable him to carry out the mission God has given him through the Cardinals. Do not be afraid Pope Ratzinger: God goes before you, God is behind you, God is beside you. God is with you, so who shall you fear? You are Peter. Our best wishes, Your Holiness. May the Lord continue to fill you with wisdom and discernment.” The 4,000 members at the event will take part in the Mass in St Peter’s Square on Sunday 24 April for the inauguration of the Pontificate of Benedict XVI.
