Beirut (Fides Service) - “This Pontiff will know how to guide the Church of the present day on a safe course”, Syrian Catholic Bishop Raboula Antoine Beylouni in Lebanon told Fides. “Catholics in Beirut are very happy. We know Benedict XVI will be strong in doctrine and spirituality. I believe the Conclave chose him because he is a person who speaks clearly and instils confidence. Catholics heard the news of the election through the media and after seeing the new Pope on television and they said his face is illuminated by the Holy Spirit. We pray to the Lord Jesus and his Mother to protect the Pope so he may always walk in the light of the Gospel in this rapidly changing world. I believe Pope Benedict XVI is the right leader for our times: we know he will be a man of his day and will not hesitate to undertake renewal but following the path traced by John Paul II”.
