ASIA/CHINA - Theological writings of Pope Ratzinger translated and published in China in 2002 by the Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing

Beijing (Fides Service) - Theological writings of Pope Benedict XVI when he was still Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger were translated published in Chinese in 2002, an expert on relations between China and the Holy See told Fides. In fact in 2002 Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing translated into Chinese the 8th edition of “Einfuhrüng in das Christentum” written in 1968 by Joseph Ratzinger, when he was a professor at Bonn University. Some 3,000 copies of the book were printed by the San Lian publishers. When a missionary sent the author a copy of his works in Chinese, Cardinal Ratzinger, who has always distinguished himself for his prudence and discretion wrote back with a personal message expressing his gratitude and appreciation.
In a volume in Chinese entitled “Contemporary Theology of Western Catholicism” Prof. Zhuo Xin Pin, head of the Institute for Studies on Christianity at the Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing, devotes no less than 10 pages to the biography and thought of Cardinal Ratzinger.
