ASIA/MONGOLIA - Catholics in Mongolia rejoice for Pope Benedict XVI and hope he will visit this little flock in the heart of Asia

Ulan Bator (Fides Service) - Mgr Wenceslao Padilla, Prefect Apostolic of Ulan Bator will announce the news of the election of Benedict XVI to the 300 Catholics in Mongolia, at the first mass tomorrow morning at 6.30am. “When we heard the news through the media here in Mongolia it was the middle of the night, two in the morning. I know that in a few hours time at the early Mass I will give the news to the people with deep emotion” Mgr Padilla told Fides. “We are very happy to have a new Pope. I will share this great event with our community of 300 Catholics in Mongolia who will rejoice with me I known. I know too that I will receive messages of congratulation from civic leaders and leaders of other religions. We hope with all our heart that the new Pope will come to visit this little flock in the in Mongolia. This was a desire of the late Pope John Paul II. We hope too that Benedict 16th will follow in the footsteps of his predecessor”.
