Beijing (Fides) - A Catholic priest in Beijing told Fides that at Sunday Masses yesterday in every parish in the capital special prayers were said for the election of the new Pope with the hope that he may achieve the dream of John Paul II, to visit China. “There is interest for the conclave in every sector of society. Catholics are united in prayer, adoration and praying the rosary. Geographically we are distant but we have never felt so close to the universal Church as at this moment when the Cardinals meet to choose our next Pope under the guidance of the Holy Spirit”. The priest underlined “our” Pope. Other sources confirmed that prayers for the election of the new Pope were said at masses yesterday Sunday in every parish in Beijing. The priest concluded his report with a wish: “We would like to welcome the new Pope on his first apostolic journey here in Beijing”. (Agenzia Fides 18/04/2005 Righe: 19 Parole: 174)
