Vatican City (Fides Service) - According to the World Health Organisation 11 million children die every year, 40% in the first month of life. Complications during pregnancy and birth are among the main causes of death among women aged 15 to 49. The Pan American Health Organisation and the Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organisation have called on governments, private organisations and NGOs, communities and individuals to help guarantee every mother and child the right to health from the moment of birth.
This activity is among the daily commitments of Bambino Gesù Children Hospital in Rome, now a point of reference for the health of children all over Italy and in the world. To implement the Christian teaching: “care for the sick, serve the infirm”, the hospital is activated at the world level sending its doctors to those parts of the planet where there is most need of treatment and scarce assistance resources, in particular for children, or were many seedbeds of war strike precisely the weakest and most defenceless of human beings.
Since 1994 children in more than 40 different countries have benefited from the intervention of doctors at the Bambino Gesù Hospital in their own country. The Hospital has agreements with many countries and organisations, such as the Latin American-Italy Institute, to provide diagnosis and assistance at a distance for pathologies of various degrees of seriousness and rarity.
