Concert in aid of Corti Foundation and e St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Uganda, 20 April in Milan

Rome (Fides Service) - In Milan on 20 April at the Istituto dei Ciechi, via Vivaio at 9pm the Mnogaja Leta Quartet will give charity concert in aid of Foundation Piero and Lucille Corti onlus. The Foundation Corti, started by Mr and Mrs Piero and Lucille Corti, supports the work of St. Mary’s Hospital di Lacor in Northern Uganda, opened 45 years ago and now a major health care centre in the region and a haven for people seeking to escape the violence of civil war.
The Mnogaja Leta Quartet (Mnogaja Leta is the title of an ancient Byzantine-Slav hymn meaning “many happy years”) will present some well known Negro-spirituals, the songs of African slaves in America, called by many “the prehistory of jazz” and blues. From the musical point of view Spirituals are a fusion of different cultures. African and European, Celtic, Irish, Scottish and Protestant choral music widespread in north America at the time. The Mnogaja Leta Quartet as sung together for 40 years in Italy and elsewhere.
