ASIA/UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - Catholics in Persian Gulf countries pray for John Paul II

Dubai (Fides Service)- On Sunday 3 April a requiem mass for Pope John Paul II was said in St Michael’s church in Dubai. “We have lost a great figure who was committed to the good of the whole of humanity,” said representatives of the Christian community in Dubai.
The little Catholic community in the Gulf countries counts about 50,000 people. In the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Dubai a lady with 4 children said “I have come to thank the Holy Pope for all he did for peace in the world and all that he transmitted to our hearts”.
“Since the evening of Saturday 2 April people have been coming to church to pray and light candles” a priest said.
In Abu Dhabi the capital of the United Arab Emirates since Tuesday 5 April the faithful have been coming to sign a book of condolence in the church of St Joseph.
