Algiers (Fides Agency) - “Your Father has died: our condolences”. With these words the Algerian Muslims share the mourning of the small local Catholic Community for the death of Pope John Paul II. Sources of the White Fathers of Algiers report to Fides Agency: “Since the Holy Father’s conditions worsened our Muslim friends told us that they were praying for his health” the missionaries said. “Now, in the hour of his death, the Muslim community shares our sorrow for his passing away”.
“The sickness and death of John Paul II has struck everyone here in Algeria” the missionaries continue. “This extraordinary man leaves to us, as an inheritance, what he has done for peace, freedom and the advancement of all humanity”. (L.M.) (Fides Agency 5/4/2005 lines 14 words 150)
