Bogota (Fides Service) - On the occasion of the death of Pope John Paul II the Council of Latin American Bishops’ Conferences is in communion with the whole universal Church in prayer to the Father of Mercy for his eternal repose and that the riches and depth of his pastoral ministry may bear fruit in the Churches of America. In a statement CELAM recalled its fruitful meetings with the Supreme Pontiff. In Puebla his teaching on the truth of Jesus Christ, the Church and on humanity was determinant for the reflection of the Latin American Bishops. In Santo Domingo at CELAM’s 4th General Assembly dedicated to New Evangelisation, the Pope stressed the need to promote human development. Lastly, in view of COMLA 5 in 2006, the Pope voiced his esteem for this form of collegial meeting of Bishops’ Conferences encouraging the Bishops to continue them. (R.Z.) (Agenzia Fides 6/4/2005)
