Wednesday, 6 April 2005

Cologne (Fides Service) - The secretary general for the organisation of the 20th World Youth Day in Cologne, Germany, in August this year, Rev. Fr Heiner Koch, said on behalf of the local committee “Weltjugendtag gGmbH” and WYD Office.: “With the passing of John Paul II the youth of the whole world loses one of its greatest advocates. It was this Pope who started World Youth Days developing one of the central elements of his pontificate. He ardently desired to be able to travel to Cologne for the event 18 to 21 August this year. We always felt sustained in our work by the Holy Father’s support and confidence for which we are profoundly grateful. We who are responsible for organising World Youth Day together with our many co-workers are united with Catholics young and old in mourning the death of Pope John Paul II”.
