OCEANIA/AUSTRALIA - Catholics, other Christians and people of good will are watching the news and accompanying the Pope with their prayers

Saturday, 2 April 2005

Sydney (Fides Service) - In Australia believers and non believers are watching and waiting as Pope John Paul II clings to life. All eyes are on Rome and St Peter’s. Fides sources in Sydney say many churches remained open during the night and people of all ages stopped to pray and light a candle. Young people in particular are praying for the Holy Father and his intentions. For Catholics and indeed all Christians in Australia the Pope is a “wonderful man, simple and humble, a messenger of God” and they appreciate all he has done for the Church and the world, the source said.
