AFRICA/SUDAN - Even in the poorest and remotest regions of Sudan people are praying for the Pope

Saturday, 2 April 2005

Turalei (Fides Service)- Even in the remote region of the Nuba Mountains in the heart of Sudan people are praying for the Holy Father. “Bishop Macram Max Gassis of El Obeid, went to that area to preside Easter liturgies” diocesan sources in El Obeid told Fides. “It is not easy to communicate with that region but we have managed to inform the Catholics there about the Pope’s worsened state of health and we were told that special prayers were immediately organised”.
The Nuba Mountain area is one of the poorest in Sudan. It lacks infrastructures and suffered serious damage during years of civil war since the 1980s which ended at last in January this year. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 2/4/2005 righe 14 parole 144)
