Beijing (Fides Service) - According to a local Church source, churches in Beijing were filled to capacity for Palm Sunday services last Sunday. Masses were held from six in the morning onwards and people of all ages, including many immigrant workers, flocked to church. The source told Fides that people come from rural areas where there are few churches to celebrate Easter in the capital together with family and friends. Many workers come from other provinces. They are people who cannot get to church regularly but they make an effort to celebrate Holy Week and Easter. One worker told Fides: “My family have been Catholics for several generations and Easter is very important for us. On Palm Sunday my girls friend who is not a Christian came to church with me. I pray to the Lord that she too may receive the gift of faith and believe in God’s love”.
