Aachen (Fides Service) - In a Pastoral Letter “His salvation for all Peoples”, the Catholic Bishops of Germany underline the never changing importance of the missionary mandate of the universal Church (see Fides 27 September 2004). Referring to the Bishops’ Letter the latest issue (1/2005) of “Schule und Mission” (School and Mission) published by Holy Childhood Germany èis dedicated to the concrete significance of the mission and proclamation in the daily life of the children and young people of today .
In his editorial the director of Missionary Childhood in Mgr. Winfried Pilz, said that for a long time the word mission was avoided but today it is central in Christian reflection per. “Mission is the divine command to go to all peoples, share their preoccupations and announce to them the Word of God. This mandate is for all Christians including children and young people. “With their sincerity, enthusiasm and joy as they reach out to others, their desire to celebrate and pray together and work for a world of more justice, children and young people are the most convincing messengers - missionaries - of God’s love for mankind and his Gospel of the Kingdom of God”, Mgr Pilz wrote to explain the specific significance of the missionary mandate entrusted to children.
The magazine includes articles on initiatives of missionary collaboration in Kenya, Namibia and Brazil revealing the close connection between missionary work and help for the most helpless. Suggestions for school lessons and Liturgy of the Word, show how mission can be integrated into daily life, at home, in school and in parishes. “Schule und Mission” is distributed free on request to interested schools, kindergartens, communities and individuals.
