EUROPE/ITALY - Japan contributes 113,000 Euro for S. Egidio education and healthcare programmes in Lezha, Albania

Rome (Fides Service) - The Japanese Embassy has donated 113,000 Euro for two social programmes in Albania, in the district of Lezha.
The programmes, which will be implemented by volunteers of the Rome based S. Egidio community, are the following: to improve education to building a primary school in Barbulloje in the district of Lezha; and to improve mother and child health care in Lezha
There are 900 children aged 7 - 14 in the village of Barbulloje which has no proper school. The S. Egidio community will use 56,621 Euro of the Japanese donation to build and furnish the school and 57,943 Euro, to build a new healthcare centre in the village of Malecaj where the present Centre was seriously damaged in floods in 2000. It will also install an ultrasound scan at Lezha hospital which specialises in care for mothers and children. (AP) (8/3/2005 Agenzia Fides; Righe:18 Parole:196)
