AFRICA/BENIN - Archbishop of Cotonou resigns, the Pope appoints new Archbishop

Vatican City (Fides) - The Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, on 5 March 2005 accepted the renunciation of the pastoral government of the archdiocese of Cotonou (Benin) presented by Archbishop Nestor Assogha, in conformity with the Code of Canon Law, canon 401 § 1. The Holy Father appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Cotonou Mgr. Marcel Honorat Léon Agboton, until now Bishop of Porto Novo. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 5/3/2005; Righe 5; Parole 62)
