Thursday, 3 March 2005

Shi Jia Zhuang (Fides Service) - The Sisters of the congregation of St Joseph and the old people and children and sick people in their care, continue to pray for a speedy recovery for the Pope Superior General Sr Chiara Zhai told Fides on the telephone. Sr Zhai took the opportunity to ask for the latest news on the Pope’s health: “We keep up with the news on the Internet: but how is the Pope today?”.
“In our homes for the elderly, in both our clinics, and in all our communities we pray for the Pope every day. On Sundays we have special prayers for the Pope with children at catechism classes. We see the elderly and the children very close to the Pope at this time of suffering. The old people share his age and his suffering. The children see him and love him as a grandfather dressed in white”.
The Sisters of St Joseph is a diocesan community founded over 100 years ago in 1891. Today there are 36 Sisters; some run a home for the elderly and two medical centres and the others work in schools.
