Athens (Fides Service) - “Offer an opportunity to Christian individuals and Churches to share experience and reflect on priorities of mission and the future of Christian witness to be channels of reconciliation; promote commitment to be agents of reconciliation in local Churches, communities and societies”: these are some of the aims of a Conference on World Mission and Evangelism organised by the World Council of Churches with the slogan “Come Holy Spirit, heal and reconcile!” which will be held in the month of May in Athens, capital of Greece.
The theme chosen reminds Christians than mission is not the work of man it is the work of God and His Holy Spirit present and active in the Church and in the world. This is the first time that the WCC Conference is held in an Orthodox context. The conference will be hosted in fact at the Andreas Recreation Centre 30 km north east of Athens on the marathon road between Rafina and Nea Makri on the Aegean sea. The 500 participants will include delegates from different Churches all over the world, members of the WCC and representatives of the Catholic Church. (R.Z.)
