Wednesday, 2 March 2005

Baghdad (Fides)- “The Iraqi people are devoted to the Holy Father who has always called for peace in our country. And at this time when he is ill in hospital, we wish to say that despite the difficulties we encounter with daily attacks on innocent people we too are praying that the Holy Father may make a speedy recovery ”. Nizar Semaan, a Catholic priest in the northern town of Mosul in Iraq told Fides
“Iraqi Christians have taken to heart the Pope’s condition. Catholic families are offering their customary evening family rosary for him. Besides personal and family prayer, there are also community prayers by youth groups and prayers during the celebration of Mass” Father Nizar told Fides. (L.M.)
