OCEANIA/SOLOMON ISLANDS - Widespread attention in Solomon Islands for the health of Pope John Paul II: Sunday Masses offered for the Holy Father

Saturday, 26 February 2005

Honiara (Fides Service) - “The media in Solomon Islands are giving ample space to the health conditions of Pope John Paul II. Local newspapers, radio and television are following the situation at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome where the Pope was admitted last Tuesday for the second time in a month. Everyone here, not only Catholics, is showing genuine concern for the Holy Father” Salesian Father Ambrose Pereira, head of Honiara diocese communications office told Fides. “We know that as we pray for the Pope we join millions of Christians and people of good will all over the world. He is the Shepherd of the universal Church, he is our guide and we love him deeply. We pray the Lord that the Pope will recover completely and soon return to the Vatican. Tomorrow all our Sunday Masses will be offered for the Pope and in the different communities special prayer vigils are being organised”.
