AMERICA/MEXICO - The Church in Mexico shares this time of apprehension but is convinced that the Pope will carry on his mission and like Jesus, he will not come down from the cross: the Bishops pray to Our Lady of Guadalupe to protect the Pope

Mexico City (Fides Service) - The Church in Mexico, hearing the news that the Pope was admitted to hospital a second time, while invoking the maternal help and protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Guadalupe, also voiced firm obedience to the will of God and called on Mexicans to accompany the Holy Father with prayers at this moment of difficulty. “The Church - the Bishops write - shares this trial convinced that the Pope will faithfully continue his mission and, like Christ, will not come down from the Cross”…“It is clear that the testimony of life is stronger than death. John Paul II addresses the fearful heart of man echoing the words of the Master: ‘Do not be afraid. The power of Christ’s Cross and his Resurrection is greater than all evil, even the most frightening”. (RZ) (Agenzia Fides 25/2/2005, righe 9; parole 131)
