Beijing (Fides Service) - As the next World Youth Day approaches enthusiasm among young Chinese Catholics is growing. The event will take place in August in Germany in the town of Cologne. After visiting the official WJT web site young people in China are thinking how they can take part. In 1996 a good number of young Chinese Catholics took part in the WYD in the Philippines at the invitation of Cardinal Jaime Sin archbishop Manila, and now many more are anxious to take part in the event in Germany. One young Chinese Catholic told Fides: “Let’s hope someone will help us. We are prepared to take days off from school and work and to pay our way because this is opportunity we do not want to miss: we long to take part in the WYD, it would be an experience of full communion with the universal Church”.
