EUROPE/GERMANY - Mission of communities of consecrated life central topic of German Bishops plenary Assembly

Stapelfeld/Cloppenburg (Fides Service) - From 14 to 17 February the Catholic Bishops of Germany will gather in Stapelfeld/Cloppenburg for their annual Spring plenary assembly. Within the framework of the assembly the Bishops will take part in a study seminar on the theme “Mission of communities of consecrated life: development and in the present day” which will examine the situation of religious life in Germany. Besides discussing the present changes in religious Orders and institutions, the seminar will consider various aspects of co-operation between religious orders and dioceses.
Germany's 69 Catholic Bishops will also discuss preparations for World Youth Day to be held in Cologne from 16 to 21 August 2005. Other items on the agenda include a Bishops’ Conference initiative “The future beings here: marriage and family” and a Bishops’ Conference statement “Burying the dead and accompanying the grieving”.
