Brasilia (Fides Service) - In a message on the occasion of Brazil’s Fraternity Campaign 2005 Pope John Paul II said the Campaign organised every year by the local Church for the past forty years, and this year extended to include other Christians in Brazil, is an important opportunity for ecumenical co-operation, for promoting better mutual understanding and esteem.
The Pope said also said “in our world today, increasingly marked by violence and indifference Christians who take part in efforts to promote peace and solidarity become valid channels of evangelisation and an example for all men and women to build a more fraternal society ever more attentive to the needs of the poor”.
The Holy Father ended his brief message expressing the hope that “with the help of the Holy Spirit this Ecumenical Fraternity Campaign will help increase awareness of common belonging to Christ, encourage personal and community conversion, dilate charity and take on the dimensions of an announcement to reveal the face of Christ in order to celebrate the Paschal Mystery of the Lord.”.
