Aachen (Fides Service) - The year 2004 was a positive one for the Missio Institute of Missiology (Missionswissenschaftliches Institut, MWI) of Aachen, Germany. According to a report sent to Fides, donations were 3% higher than last year, reaching a total sum of 950.000 Euro. MWI Director Richard Brosse said the increase is due mainly to efforts to spread awareness among donors and growing acceptance in the Church in Germany of MWI aims and activity. With its specific sector of scientific promotion the Institute of Missiology won a place in the competition for solidarity.
MWI is a small but highly specialised institute: besides study grants for students in philosophy and theology it promotes theology in the context of countries in the south of the world and the teaching of this theology in Germany.
MWI also supports the publication of magazines and books on the theme of mission. In 2005 there will be two new volumes in the series “Third World Theology” (published by Catholic publishers Herder): “Trusting God? AIDS and theologies in southern Africa” and a selection of interventions at the “Ecclesia of Women in Asia: Gathering the Voices of the Silenced”conference held in Bangkok 2002. MWI initiatives planned for 2005 include the 11th north-south philosophy seminar on the theme “New forms of solidarity” to be held at Eichstätt in September this year. Priorities in scientific activity this year include “Religion and Violence”, “Reform of Study Curricula” and “New forms of religiosity”. (MS) (Agenzia Fides, 07/02/2005 - 24 righe, 239 parole)
