EUROPE/ITALY - Day for Consecrated Life - entering a convent at the age of twenty for love of God: testimonial from Michaela.

Wednesday, 2 February 2005

Rome (Fides Service) - How did you hear God’s call ? We asked this of Sister Michela, postulant at Carmel San Giuseppe in via Nocetta a Rome. Michaela is twenty and she has just joined an enclosed order of nuns at the heart of the eternal city. Until a short while ago she was a member of the Italian national volley ball team. Then she heard God call and decided to join twenty nuns via Nocetta
I have no answer to your question - Sr Michaela told Fides.
I think it is a bit like falling in love. It is such a big thing that it cannot be described in words.
There is no greater love than this - Jesus said - to give one’s life for one’s friends. And this is the Love with whom I am in love. A Love stronger than death. Love which can change death into life. Actually I never thought of becoming a nun! But it is wonderful to trust the one who loves you! It all happened so quietly in that part of the heart where He alone is present!
I would have liked to travel the missions of the world but I found myself knocking at the door of a convent and all I desired was to love God and to love others as myself.
It sounds impossible. It is a mystery but I think it may be the bars which seem to separate us from the world, closing us in, when in fact they open the way to the very heart of God and the world. It is like dying, but it is dying for love and it already opens to the bright light of the life and joy of the Risen Lord! (P.L.R.) (Agenzia Fides 2/02/2005 - Righe 22; Parole 332)
