EUROPE/SPAIN - Inter-active internet video game helps children develop spirit of mission

Friday, 21 January 2005

Madrid (Fides Service) - On the occasion of Missionary Childhood Day (in Spain 23 January) the Pontifical Mission Societies PMS in Spain are promoting an inter-active video game elaborated by the local Holy Childhood Mission Society. The game offers missionary information and formation said Rev. Anastasio Gil, vice national PMS director in Spain. It is an interactive video game in Internet with questions similar to a board game which can be played alone, or with another person or many others in a team. The player throws a virtual dice and moves along the board while answering questions on various subjects, the missions, the situation of children in the world, the Gospel, Christian values etc. A right answer means a step forward, a wrong answer means a step back and as the game progresses questions become more difficult. Mistakes reflect sad situations, war, child abuse, and the player is penalised.
The game is simple but its aim is important: to help children develop a spirit of mission so that as the Holy Childhood motto says “children can help children” . The game can be viewed at PMS Spain web site. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 21/1/2005; righe 17, parole 222)
