AMERICA/PERU - Bishops' Plenary Assembly works on Family Document and Caritas Peru receives award from national parliament for outstanding service to the needy

Lima (Fides Service) - The Catholic Bishops of Peru are holding their 85th plenary assembly 18-21 January in Lima. Work on the agenda includes the examination of a draft document on the Family; a review of pastoral activities undertaken by the Bishops’ Conference and its various commissions and bodies in 2004; co-ordination and approval of activities for this year. The Bishops will be called to elect a new Conference Secretary General as well as members of a delegation to send to the next Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Rome, 2-29 October 2005.
This morning a delegation of the Bishops’ Conference, led by President of the Conference Bishop Hugo Garaycoa Hawkins of Tacna and Moquegua and Bishop Lino Panizza, OFM Cap., of Carabayllo also President of Caritas Peru, were invited to the National Parliament where they were presented with a medal assigned to Caritas Peru for outstanding service to the needy in Peru.
