EUROPE/ITALY - “Notes of the Heart - Healthcare for Solidarity” and fighting AIDS and drug abuse in Africa and south east Asia

Rome (Fides Service) - Yesterday 13 January the 3rd ‘Notes of the Heart - Healthcare for Solidarity’ Concert was held in aid of the struggle against AIDS and drug abuse Africa and South East Asia organised by Hyppocrates ONLUS association of professional health workers president Prof. Francesco Vaia.
Participants included Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples and representatives of Italian various associations involved in fighting HIV/AIDS and drug abuse in countries far from Italy.
Funds collected this year will be used for 2 programmes of assistance and care: Seedling of Hope AIDS Hospice in Phnom Penh, Cambodia directed by Father Jim Noonan and medical laboratory for early diagnosis of HIV/AIDS opened by S. Egidio community as part of its Dream Programme in Mozambique to prevent mother/child transmission of HIV/AIDS virus.
During the evening recognition was given to individuals, organisations, hospitals etc., working in this field in many different countries, including the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Sri Lanka at present working to assist tsunami victims and the Jesuit Emmanuel Community which assists the poor and the excluded.
