AMERICA/URUGUAY - Nearly half of all children live in the poorest households

Montevideo (Agenzia Fides) - 49.2% of Uruguayan children live in a situation of complete poverty. This probelm affects almost half the country's children between 0 and 11 years of age. This was reported by the Continue Analysis of Families of 2014, carried out by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The research revealed that among the youth in the Country, 16.5% do not study or work, and the highest rates of both phenomena are recorded among women. Poverty increases in Uruguayan families depending on the presence or absence of children under 12 years of age. For example, according to data of INE, in families with only one child, the rate is 9.5%, 37.8% in those with three or more children. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 15/09/2015)
