AMERICA/EL SALVADOR - "Problems are not solved with demonstrations, but with good will" said Mgr. Escobar

San Salvador (Agenzia Fides) - "It is a lack of respect to see leaders who fight in the streets" condemned the Archbishop of San Salvador, His Exc. Mgr. Luis Escobar Alas, referring to the increasingly heated political debate, while crime increases without the intervention of authorities.
The Archbishop stresses that this attitude does not bring any benefit, because society is tired of seeing extreme polarization.
In the note sent to Fides, Mgr. Escobar Alas comments the demonstrations against corruption, impunity and violence, which took place on Saturday, September 5 in different places in the city, promoted by movements linked to political parties, which seek the support of citizens. "These are complex issues that need to be addressed well - said Mgr. Escobar Alas -. But the Salvadoran society has matured.... We want mature and responsible behavior, in order to solve problems, not street demonstrations. We have to be serious and look for a solution with good will, otherwise we will not go forward".
The Archbishop concludes by noting that it is "very sad and significant" that the three Presidents of Central America are having to face justice because of corruption: "If you have to fight against corruption, it must be done through the institutions of the State, that must be strengthened in order to address these problems".
