AMERICA/MEXICO - May our nation be an open space for respectable migration, in justice and peace

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - "Just like every person has the right to defend their identity, to set limits to its spaces, one also has the vital need to open its borders in order to meet each other’s needs, to give one’s wealth and receive it from others. No one lives alone". This is what His Exc. Mgr. Guillermo Ortiz Mondragón, Bishop of Cuautitlan, in charge of the Pastoral Care of Migrants of the Mexican Episcopal Conference writes in his message for the World Day of Migrants, which in Mexico is celebrated on Sunday, September 6.
In the text, sent to Agenzia Fides, the Bishop points out that not only in Mexico but throughout the world, the reality of human mobility today is characterized "by a globalization that loses sight of the person and God; insecurity caused by violence, organized crime. Often it is not a mobility that opens the horizon of life to people".
The Bishop recalls that in Mexico the Church takes care of migrants in 60 houses and centers, thanks to the generous service of the laity, and ordained ministers. Furthermore, in the dialogue with the institutions, it is committed to promoting laws and regulations in accordance with the principles of justice and charity for these brothers.
"In celebrating the National Day of Migrants in Mexico - concludes the Message -, we appeal to our authorities and all people of good will to continue to fight for our nation so that it becomes an open space for respectable migration, in justice and peace". (SL) (Agenzia Fides 04/09/2015)
