ASIA/INDIA - Appointment of the Rector of the "St. Francis Xavier" Philosophical Seminary in Agra

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On March 5, 2015 Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed rev. Tharcius Britto as Rector of the "St. Francis Xavier" Regional Philosophical Seminary in Agra.
The new Rector was born on July 6, 1960 in Attipakkam, Tamil Nadu. After the Minor Seminary (St. John's Seminary) he studied philosophy at Morning Star College in Calcutta and theology at Dharmaram College in Bangalore. He was ordained a priest on 27 April in 1991, in Oriyur, in Tamil Nadu. After carrying out his pastoral ministry in a parish for a few years, he obtained a Doctorate in philosophy (1999-2003) in Rome at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. He was a formator and teacher at the "St. Francis Xavier" regional Philosophical Seminary in Agra, rector of St. John's Seminary in Jhansi, parish priest and dean of the Divine Merci School, in Jhansi. Since 2012 he has been a formator and teacher at the "St. Francis Xavier" Seminary. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 01/09/2015)
