Friburg (Fides Service) - In Switzerland as in all German speaking countries and some other countries, every year on and around the Feast of the Epiphany January 6 children members of Missionary Childhood love to take part in Sternsinger Star Singers campaigns to collect money for needy children all over the world. This year the money collected was destined to go to children in poor parts of Pattaya in Thailand.
As a result of the December 26 seaquake many children in Thailand lost their homes and some also their parents. Missionary Childhood Switzerland had started a programme to help children in Pattaya on the east coast of the country, not affected by the recent tsunami disaster. Now there are hundreds of people in need all over the country and the most vulnerable are children and adolescents. According to co-ordination offices of the Holy Childhood’s Star Singers campaign of Switzerland and Liechtenstein 100,000 Swiss Francs have been assigned for programmes to help children in the affected areas. With these funds Swiss children want especially to support long term aid programmes.
For many years funds collected by Holy Childhood children in Switzerland have supported programmes in aid of less fortunate children in Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India. Many of these programmes included schools, orphanages, kindergartens run by dioceses or Catholic religious which suffered serious damage in the recent tragedy are now in need of repair or rebuilding.
