ASIA/PHILIPPINES - Caritas launches "phase two" for rehabilitation after typhoon Yolanda

Manila (Philippines) - Caritas of the Philippines, has started the second phase of its three-year rehabilitation program for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.
As reported by the Director of Caritas, Rolando Tirona, the second phase of the rehabilitation program will run until March 2016, and will focus on activities aimed at supporting local communities. The previous year, Caritas focused on building facilities, while "this year we will work on the capacity of people and activities to reduce the risk of disasters", said Tirona.
The program, called REACH Philippines (Recovery Assistance to vulnerable communities affected by Typhoon Haiyan), aims to reach 184.750 people in the nine most affected provinces. The objectives include the construction and repair of 920 shelters, installation of 28 water systems, 220 protected wells for 4,100 families, and livelihoods for 7,000 families.
This is the most massive rehabilitation program initiated by the Filipino Catholic Church, for a value of 817 million pesos. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 26/08/2015)
