AFRICA/ETHIOPIA - Caritas builds four schools for 4,800 South Sudanese refugees

Addis Ababa (Agenzia Fides) - More than 4,800 South Sudanese refugee children in Ethiopia will be able to receive education in 4 schools, inaugurated recently in Kule and Terkendi camps, in the Gambella region, about 800 km west of Addis Ababa,
The schools were built by the Ethiopian Catholic Church' Social and Development Commission with the support of Catholic Relief Services (CRS).
"We thank God for giving us this opportunity to assist the refugees by constructing these educational facilities", said the Vicar Apostolic of Gambella, Rev. Fr. Angelo Moreschi, S.D.B.
According to data of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the facilities of Gambella welcome about 276,000 registered refugees from South Sudan.
These people have been fleeing from the civil war in South Sudan since December 2013. According to UNHCR figures, 1.95 million people are internally displaced, while 821,000 are refugees abroad, for a total of 2.8 million people forced to leave their homes. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 24/08/2015)
