AMERICA/UNITED STATES - Over 50 thousand Hispanics waiting for the Pope in Washington

Thursday, 20 August 2015

Washington (Agenzia Fides) - There will be over 50,000 Hispanic-American believers waiting for the Pope in Washington, said His Exc. Mgr. Mario Eduardo Dorsonville-Rodríguez, Auxiliary Bishop of Washington in a note sent to Fides regarding the Pope's visit to the United States. Mgr. Dorsonville said that the meeting will be close to the White House, after the meeting with President Obama, on September 23.

Among the preparations put in place by 40 parishes, there is also the "Mass at Dawn", where thousands of Hispanic-Americans will be able to meet Pope Francis, even for a moment, while he passes through the streets of Washington.

Mgr. Dorsonville, in the note sent to Fides, shares his expectations on a sensitive and relevant topic: during his visit to the US capital, Pope Francis will make reference to the need of an immigration reform in order to regularize the situation of 11 million immigrants, many of them Hispanic.

"We think that at some point of the visit - he says - the Pontiff will make reference to the urgency of an immigration reform", he said. "In my opinion the Pope will not be indifferent towards such a delicate issue" said Mgr. Dorsonvill. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 20/08/2015)
