ASIA/HONG KONG - Entertainment Stars from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan unite in sign of solidarity with tsunami disaster victims: charity musical marathon “Charity without frontiers” starts today

Hong Kong (Fides) - To meet the emergency caused by the seaquake disaster in south east Asia Chinese speaking people in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and all over the world are united in a great effort of solidarity a marathon of music for charity. At four in the afternoon on 7 January in Hong Kong, Chinese speaking entertainment stars started a 7 hour non stop musical show “Charity without frontiers” in aid of the victims of the December 26 tragedy which struck countries in south east Asia. The programme was broadcast via satellite to Chinese speaking communities all over the world. After only 90 minutes the initiative had collected 8 million Hong Kong dollars( 800,000 Euro). Artists taking part included Jackie Chan (film actor ) Zhang Yi Mou (film director) and many other starts of music and cinema. Musical performances were interspersed with touching testimony of people who had just returned after volunteering to help in the stricken areas.
Another charity concert for the same goal was held in Beijing on January 6 with diplomats of the affected countries as special guests: the funds collected were presented to the national representatives. Other events of solidarity with seaquake victims are scheduled for the coming days.
