ASIA/INDIA - Appointment of the Bishop of Jhabua

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On July 18, 2015 the Holy Father appointed Rev. Fr. Basil Bhuriya, S.V.D., Pastor and member of the Provincial Council of the Divine Word Fathers as Bishop of the Diocese of Jhabua (India).
Rev. Fr. Basil Bhuriya, S.V.D., was born on 8 March 1956 in Panchjui, in the Diocese of Jhabua. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the Pontifical Athenaeum in Pune. Later, he earned a B.A. at the University of Indore. He was ordained a priest on May 5, 1986.
Since his ordination he has served as: 1987-1988: Assistant priest in Muvalia, Gujarat, diocese of Baroda; 1988-1992: Vice Rector of St. Thomas Seminary in Indore; 1992-1997: Rector of St. Thomas Seminary in Indore; 1997-2002: Parish priest in Dhar, Indore diocese; 2002-2005: Director of the Hostel of Thandla, Diocese of Jhabua; 2005-2009: Parish priest in Rajgarh, Diocese of Jhabua; since 2009: Parish priest of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Thandla, Diocese of Jhabua; Since 2011: Member of the Provincial Council of the PP.
