Brasilia (Fides Service) - In a Letter “SOS Asia” the Catholic Bishops of Brazil urge their people to show solidarity towards the brothers and sisters victims of the seaquake in south east Asia and they express their sympathy with the stricken people recommend the many brothers and sisters who died to the mercy and goodness of God the Father.
“This terrible catastrophe - the Bishops say in their letter - is an opportunity for the whole world to put aside egoism and show solidarity. International solidarity is already in motion collecting money and aid and co-ordinating most urgent relief work. Nevertheless these people will need a lot of help to overcome the consequences of the natural disaster and return to normality”. The Bishops say Caritas Brazil has been established as the national reference point for donations in money and they suggest that dioceses, parishes and communities should promote special prayers and collections of money which will then be sent to the Catholic Bishops in the affected areas.
The address for offerings in Brazil is as follows : CONTA DA CARITAS BRASILEIRA. Banco do Brasil - Ag 3475-4_CC 39.000-3.
