ASIA/INDIA - Ursuline Sisters of St. Jerome in Somasca missionaries in the state of Tamil Nadu plan to open home for homeless children and orphans

Pudur Kundukulam (Fides Service) - Ursuline Sisters of St. Jerome in Somasca on mission in the state of Tamil Nadu plan to open a home for orphans for victims of the December 26 tsunami disaster.
The Sisters have already taken in 50 orphans in their primary school at Pudur Kundukulam, Tamil Nadu where more than 3,000 people were killed in the catastrophe. To meet the present emergency, “our mother General is visiting the affected areas to find the best place to open home for the many children wandering around who are homeless or without parents” Sr Rosaria, Somasche Ursuline Secretary General told Fides adding that their community of Sisters in Bandung, Indonesia, is also actively involved in emergency relief work.
The Ursuline Sisters of St. Jerome in Somasca are involved mainly in caring for children, young people and the promotion of women. Aware of the need to “globalise solidarity and mission” they find a valid point of departure in missionary animation and the service of education. In fact they sensitise adults, young people and children through itineries of faith and human formation to help them grow in solidarity and for the promotion of respect for human rights.
The Sisters have commuities in Belgium, Italy and Switzerland, Bolivia and Brasil, Indonesia (Bandung) and India (Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu).
The Ursuline Religious call on all Christians to show solidarity with these brothers and sisters victims of the seaquake.
